Crown
have been hand making cricket bats since 1974. Years of experience have culminated
in the Crown cricket bats that you see today. Our craftsmen take great pride
in their work and are involved at every stage in the making of your cricket
bat; the selection of willow; the choice of "sweet spot" and the individual
pressing of each blade are but a few of the everyday decisions which a machine
cannot undertake.Each
handle is precisely constructed using cane, rubber, cork and adhesive. The cricket
bat maker fits handle in a slightly forward position to aid the balance, feel
and pick-up of the finished cricket bat.The
draw knife, hand plane and spoke shave are used skillfully to produce fine hand
made cricket bats. Additional time and skill is devoted to the shaping of the
oval handle whilst marrying it with the shoulder of the bat. This produces a
natural shape for the batsman bottom hand as well as adding strength to this
area. The sanding process follows, and again the judgement and co-ordination
of hand and eye of the craftsman is crucial before the cricket bat is polished
and finally the handle is wrapped with fine twine and gripped. Our aim is to
make the highest quality, authentic hand made cricket bats using well honed
traditional skills and judgment of our bat makers.
